Tulum
A little work, a lot of play… Tulum is a magical place!
In August we took our family down to Tulum to experience the beaches, cenotes and amazing culture. But we also met with a connection from Canyon’s time in at London School of Business who now is in real estate in Tulum!
Owen took us on a fantastic tour of the different districts in Tulum proper. Then we checked out a property in Flora Fauna, took a fantastic tour of Aflora, an amazing new development in the Aldea Zama community in Tulum that offers ownership and rental properties. (Our favorite unit being on the ground level so you could walk through the front door, pass through the entry way and go right out into the gorgeous personal pool.) The penthouse views were hard to be beat though allowing you to see all the way to the ocean!
Each day there we enjoyed the amazing culture, delicious food, and different hotels along the beachfront that offer day passes so that you may enjoy their many amenities.
Our favorite being La Zebra, a family friendly boutique hotel that offers kids games, pool, and pristine beaches with huts for each family to use. And Casa Malca, a sophisticated hotel with individual bungalows for families and groups with exceptional service! They took the coconut the boys were trying to open and brought it back cracked open and a side of limes for us to enjoy it with!
There are other hotels with different dynamics too that would be great to come back to visit whether it be just us adults or with a group of friends!
Other items to note…
Cenotes: AKA Sink holes are all around Tulum, there are hundreds of them and each has their own personality! Whether it’s tall platforms to jump from, caves to swim into, or a zipline like Zacil Ha cenote that we visited, they are well worth exploring.
Sian Ka’an: The name is Mayan for “where the land meets the sea” and there’s no other way to describe it than magical. The area are Mayan lands that the Mexican government has gifted back to the local Mayans so that they may take care of it and benefit from it. Ancient Mayan ruins and their trade routes are still evident in this area. In fact, we walked through the jungle with our guide, Ben, (we can give you his number if you’re interested in scheduling this tour!) and then hopped into a boat which took us across the first lagoon. It’s crystal clear water (even in their “rainy” season) where you can look down to see fish (lots of cichlids), crabs, and more. Then we took a pathway that had been cut by the ancient Mayans to get to a second lagoon. We flew across that lagoon to another pathway, where Ben told us to jump out and to be sure to NOT swim or we would beat him to the meeting place. The five of us jumped out of the boat with life jackets and thoroughly enjoyed a natural lazy river while floating along, snorkeling and enjoying the current gently guiding us through the pathway. Ben meet us at a dock where we climbed out and walked back to the boat (though not before we stopped to observe a crocodile lounging under a bridge! Our daughter was very glad to learn of the crocodillo after our float and not during!)
